"Cycle of Naught", the second full length of the German band Weird Fate, is a complex admixture of Black Metal subgenres, therefore it requires a more than accurate listening. The Teutonic quartet, with the classic drums-guitars-bass and voice line up, releases an excellent work, full of atmosphere and tension, where vocals are not the very highlight of the opus.

The songwriting of Weird Fate mainly consists in violent moments with intertwining rhythmics, and because of this, the attention of the listener never decreases; rocky chords lashes, recalling to typical Swedish style, alternate with compelling "stop&go", while dissonant broken chords, here with a clear French matrix, disturb and at the same time take away the mind and bring the listener to unknown and mysterious worlds!

A natural and enthralling drums, not invasive, creates steamrolling rhythmics, and the drummer plays good and sophisticatedly in the more atmospheric moments.

Worth mention is the bass guitar, which is necessary as much as the occasional clean guitars from the background.

As said at the beginning of this review, the vocals have a marginal role, both in composition and intensity. The screaming style is quite "suffocated", and it could appear as a potentially critical issue, which instead turns out as an added value to the whole style of the album, and creates a mystic aura to the composition, enriched by not distorted moments who almost look like refined synths!

Each track lasts a long time, though despite this, due to the various and dynamic songwriting, they are linked to each other and the listening flows easily.

Weird Fate get inspiration from more known bands like Deathspell Omega, Secrets of the Moon and Dark Fortress, just to set an example, but of course, it is not a mere copy; they indeed have been able to keep a very personal identity in their style, which resulted in a very enjoyable album with various facets!
