Fourth full-length by the Germans Porta Nigra.
"Weltende" features a slight change in style compared to the previous masterpiece "Schöpfungswut".
The melody leaves room for aggression, emphasized by a tight singing in which there is no time to take a breath, as in the opening "Es ist Krieg". Some typically Death Metal influences are revealed in "Götterblut", a song embellished with guitar solos and dramatic choirs, in the latter the classic Porta Nigra style emerges.
With "Völkerbrand" you can initially appreciate the taste of Sodom-inspired German Thrash Metal, with a small part of synths that creates a Doom Occult atmosphere towards the end. It slows down with "Verlorene Paradiese", syncopated tempos outside the box.
A moment's pause to immerse ourselves in a melancholic melody with guitar arpeggios and vocals narrated in German, the language used for the entire album.
"Die Himmlische Revolution", from the rather flat beginning, takes off into blast beast and very fast double bass drum parts, the drums, perhaps too clean in their sounds, almost come close to drum programming.
Each song has different moments, not everything is as it seems in this rather varied album. "Weltende" is proof of this, atmospheres with synths and sudden changes almost seem like two songs in one.
While listening you often find parts narrated in German by the Austrian actor Oskar Werner (1922-1984) as in the ending of this song.
"Triebgeschwärme" has some Black Metal blast beat parts in which Porta Nigra performs best.
The album ends with "Hora Mortis", a slow and atmospheric song.
The entire composition flows without major peaks, but the varied structuring of the sound makes listening dynamic; Porta Nigra's proposals are certainly not repetitive at all.
