"Somnium Nocte Mendaciis" is pure darkness, the new sound of the apocalypse: this is how this second album by the French one-man band Ophe is presented to us by the label My Kingdom Music. Not without reason, from the very first notes, the listener is enveloped by a dark and decadent Dark Ambient atmosphere. The dissonant and hypnotic guitars of the long track "Odalisk Incursio Sub Methaqualone", increase the dose and the desperate voice transmits anguish. The drum machine is simple and deliberately repetitive, with influences from Blut Aus Nord, Manes, and DHG. "Squirting Cadaveribus" starts with a full-bodied and wicked guitar riff intersected with melancholy phrases, apparently a contradiction, however, it is an apt solution that ends with a hypnotic atmosphere. "Partum Chimerae" is a dark and disturbing industrial track, followed by "Decem Vicibus II" which offers a narrated text and ritualistic percussion for almost 10 minutes, creating a mental void immediately filled by the fast, short, and crazy "Noctis Ames". More repetitive hypnotic guitars and a harsh distant voice; the sounds of the synths seem to be emitted by planets scattered throughout the universe and in "Flores Vere A Peccatis" they alternate with haunting repeated guitar phrases.
An album capable of generating anxiety; to be sacrificed in total isolation outdoors or indoors ... as long as it is in the dark!
