Genre: Atmospheric Black Metal
Label: Nero Corvino
Line Up:
"Ancient Spell", the debut album of the Brazilian band Omniscience, has a very well-finished cover that suggests the content of certain professionalism.
However, the South American band defies expectations and proposes a Black Metal full of synths and samples: bells, drums, and battle noises.
The sound is strongly compromised by executive and conceptual uncertainties, such as drumming, not at all realistic, and penalized by the choice of inappropriate samples.
The guitars set up rather basic riffs that would be functional if the construction of the songs were more linear and not fragmented by countless detachments that make them lose their bite.
The voice, as far as screaming is concerned, is adequate, although it does not emerge by interpretation or by timbre; the female voice, except in some parts, further weighs down the pieces and, at times, inconsistencies in intonation are noted.
The production, drums excluded, is good, but they lack convincing content, perhaps it was too hasty a release for Omniscience ... we reserve a more detailed judgment for the continuation of this immature debut album.
