Genre: Atmospheric Doom Black Metal
Line Up:
Reviewing and evaluating objectively the debut of a particular and interesting band is always a bit difficult...let's talk about Marea.
It is a one-man band with a veil of mystery that hides behind the initials of its only member, M.B. . The latter creates his album as a multi-instrumentalist except the drums, recorded by Alessandro Mori, already active in several bands from the Varese area (north Italy), such as Totaldeath.
The product is well-finished, starting from the cover, lands of distant worlds, and an impetuous universe in the upper part.
Clean sounds make listening appreciable, however, they lack that distinctive raw trait of the genre that is proposed, that nuance that leads to experiencing more introspective emotions. The impression is of listening to an excellent melodic Black Metal but wrapped in a warm blanket.
The first track “Riptide Tune” is one of the most successful, the intent and the attitude shown in wanting to produce a deep and elegant work is admirable, but perhaps what is missing are the right sounds and continuity ... we go from Doom to pressing riffs of a good Black Metal, dreamy instrumental tracks influenced by the style of Alcest, changes of voice from a semi-aspirated Dany Filth, to a growl singing.
Certainly, a varied proposal, from which a defined identity does not emerge.
The themes covered are perhaps the motivation for this variety of sound, ancestral journeys into one's fears, into the deepest abysses, and the most extended space.
Album to listen to certainly, imagining that in the future M.B. will be able to find a compositional dimension that better enhances the themes covered.
