Genre: Black Metal
Label: ATMF
Line Up:

Suffering, the second full-length from US multi-instrumentalist DM, released by the Italian label ATMF, starts with the intro "Exordium" right from the start, hits you with the main vibe: violence. But even with that raw intensity, DM cleverly weaves in some more melodic parts. You'll hear it on tracks like the title song "Suffering", "Augury", and "Primordial". These sections just blend perfectly with the furious riffs and fast blast beats from the drums; that's a recurring theme throughout the whole album, even hammering it home right at the end with "Profanation."
Then, on "Defilement", you'll find some more classic guitar riffs that give a nod to '90s Scandinavian Black Metal, adding another cool layer to the sound.
Now, the production is a bit rough around the edges, especially the drum sound, but honestly, that might be a good thing. It gives the record an authentic, natural feel.
Musically, this album brings to mind bands like Belphegor and the later Mayhem. Plus, you can pick up some direct influences from Arkhon Infaustus's EP "Passing the Nekromanteion", especially in some of the riffs and transitions, particularly on the track "Primordial".
All in all, while it might not blow you away with super unique songwriting, Suffering is a solid Black Metal record. In just over 30 minutes, it grabs your attention, especially if you're a fan of the old-school sound.
