Imago Mortis is a Black Metal trio from Bergamo, northern Italy, active since almost 30 years by now, come back with their fourth full length of this long time activity, and with this " Ossa Mortuorum e Monumentis Resurrectura " they steady up once again their role in the lunatic fringe of BM, and not only in the Italian one.
The band offers to us an extremely tidy work concerning the production, made of clear nut powerful sounds, where the dynamic drums intertwines fast-paced tempos with slower parts, where the pathos of the songs has to stand out. Wisely distorted guitars easily go through typical Black Metal riffs and, occasionally, doomish and lugubrious moments. A raw but " warm " bass guitar supports everything and sometimes stands out from the other instruments, giving more personality to the performance.
Despite the long playing time of each track, the songwriting has been developed to be fluent and dynamic, but what gives also an extreme interest to this work is the lyrics' concept, where we can find stories who recall to witchery, necromancy rituals and folk stories related to the native land of Imago Mortis, all well played by Abibial in Latin language and even in the local dialect.
During the 45 minutes playing of this album, we have the feeling to behold a dark play evolved in music, whose disturbing atmospheres are difficult to find in other nowadays' works, and make Imago Mortis a cult band of the whole BM scene.
At the end of the album we have "... in Libro Diaboli ", an evocative-esoteric march that induces the listener to repeat the experience of this mystic journey! When the true light in darkness appears...
