Two years after the release of "Le Dernier Livre", Ferriterium come back with the third full length "Calvaire", produced by Epictural Production, which is the label run by the mastermind of the band in question. "Calvaire", as its predecessor, shows us an absolute and worthy project, little inclined to originality, but surely excellent for the quality of the composition. Raido shows, once again, his compositional maturity which allows him to create a varied and immersive opus, divided into four parts about ten minutes each; death inspired themes, misanthropic thoughts and an unsound spirituality are very well expressed through an extremely uncompromising and violent mix.
" L' Apostasie " has a hypnotic and evil guitar riffing, with the central part of the song which would lead to unbridled headbanging in case it was played live! Sound is darker than past releases and drums are better involved in the whole recording; all of this contributes to creating the pathos which surrounds the listener, as a result of thinking about the leaving and the rejection of own religion, almost always imposed to reach a higher consciousness. "La Proie du Cloitre" goes on the same path, thanks to its magic and oniric solemnity. Here comes up a Dissection inspired sound, especially in the faster moments, and the song switches also between slow, almost depressive parts, and epic junctures which recall the early Thy Serpent and Ancient Wisdom.
"L' Opéra de Gehenne", which refers to the New Testament meaning of Gehenna, throws us into a real hellish sound: chaos and death do not preclude other parts which remind early Katatonia and Shining. As the closure of the album, we have "L' Apogee du Martyr": distinctive rhythm, powerful, and once again, loyal to the typical Swedish Black Metal sound; an evocative guitar ornament leads to the end of this intense journey, under the banner of number 4 and the moon, who are astrologically linked!
    Highly recommended!
