Feralia, a band hailing from Turin, astonish with their visceral authenticity. The lineup comprising Krhura (bass) alongside Raijinous and Erymanton Seth (both on guitars, synths, and vocals) features Summum Algor on drums as a session musician; he is a renowned Italian extreme drummer, already established in several bands (most notably Adversam) thanks to his talent.
Following "Helios Manifesto" (2019) and "Under Stige / Over Dianam" (2022), the Piedmontese outfit unleashes its third gem: "Ultima Requies". From the very first listen, it is clear that the band consists of genre veterans. Musically, we are presented with a "damned dance": Black Metal that retains all the emotional intensity typical of the genre while being built upon complex, well-crafted compositions. The album's strength lies in its accessibility; it flows naturally while offering nuances and details discernible only to the keenest, most refined ears. Each track segues into the next, striking a perfect balance between melodic interplay and the surgical chaos that defines the genre.
An essential album born of genuine ingenuity, highly recommended to anyone who keeps the "dark flame" of true music burning. While ranking the tracks is difficult, it is impossible not to mention songs like "Pharsalia," the surprising "Empireo," or the desperate "Marpiter."
Regarding the final drum mix, a stylistic choice means the drums do not particularly stand out, slightly curbing the drummer's expressiveness. Additionally, the clean vocal passages risk dampening the atmospheric tension somewhat. Special praise goes to the use of Italian vocals—often underrated in this genre, yet incredibly effective here.
