The 2021 offers, among the many releases in extreme metal, this eponymous album by Deathcvlt produced by My Kingdom Music, the release is only available on vinyl and digital; the latter is a rather questionable choice, many still prefer the classic CD format. The Italian trio is dedicated to a clear Swedish Black Death Metal, some band's members are already known on the scene, such as Xes and Bestia from Infernal Angels and Ulag from Osselition. You are not faced with a novice band, in fact, from the very first notes, the compositional ability in the drafting of the songs stands out, structured on a constant alternation of faster parts and others more cadenced that keep high the interest in the listener. Ulag's frenzied Death Metal riffs are the backbone of the songs, supported by the excellent drumming, in which the Beast emphasizes the rhythms with accents during blast beats; the reference is to the northern European most important bands from the past, but it is not the only element of reference, some ideas recall the melodic Doom Death Metal of the 90s. All this merges convincingly with the rest of the sounds, giving a mystical and evocative aura: the sound is refined, dark and massive, in line with the most modern productions; direct guitars riffing both when working on palm muting and open strings, the bass is a bit muffled and not very distinguishable, however, it is relevant in bridging the mid frequencies. The drum sounds are not artefacts and remain quite natural, finally, the low growl of Xes appropriate to the genre. "Santa Muerte", the most varied song on the album, and "Eternal Darkness", with its overwhelming initial riff and its rhythms that encourage headbanging, and again "Dust Of Sacral Souls" which manages to be melodic and destructive at the same time. Overall a good album, recommended above all to fans of the Black Death Metal sounds of the late 90s and early 2000s, but more generally also to those who appreciate an orthodox record, well played and well recorded, nothing new or experimental, but experience and dedication lead to significant results.
