Lunar Rites, is the second full-length of Plutonian Shore, an American band active since 2010 that has currently recorded 3 full albums, an EP, and various splits. The album was produced by the very active Japanese label Hidden Marly Production.
It is an atmospheric Black Metal that transports the listener to distant worlds, dominated by dark forces ... the lyrics deal with themes of occultism, mysticism, and anti-religion. It is nothing new, but certainly, the attitude is not lacking. Among the most appreciable tracks we find "Path to Amenti" enriched by melodic guitar phrases, "Eye of Toth" characterized by many variations while keeping the atmosphere alive, and "Scrying the Night Shadows" initially cadenced reaches its peak towards the end with a sublime melody created by the guitars accompanied by the Synths often present in all the songs. Excellent timbre of the voice and interpretation, even if it is a bit hidden in the mix. A real and well-executed drumming, unfortunately, the volume of the cymbals is too high, often hiding the work behind the drumheads. The result is a lo-fi sound similar to that of the early 90s. The composition of the entire work is rather linear and maintains a good quality level without ever boring, and listening to the entire work is like taking a long mystical journey. An album recommended for fans of old-school Atmospheric Black Metal.
